Homemade Caramel Frappuccinos...

Remember those cinnamon rolls I posted a while back? Well, this is what we had with them. Milk, sugar, coffee, caramel, ice and homemade whipped cream. It doesn't get much better!

  5. Hannah - I know, weren't we? I paid for it though... I fell into a sugar coma. :-) I seriously did feel sick for a while, but I got over it. I think Frappucinos and cinnamon rolls are marvelous, but maybe have one in the morning and the other in the afternoon, not both at once!

Laura - Congrats on becoming a Google-ized entity. :-) We shall, indeed, if I die in the attempt. Which I probably will.

    Kristen - :-D

Tessa - Thanks! Hmm, I've pretty much done all my food photography by trial and error, but maybe sometime I'll post some tips of what I have learned. :-) Thanks for commenting, and I'm happy I found YOUR blog! LOVED your baby portraits!!

  6. Hello Kathryn!

You don't know me personally, but I have enjoyed watching your blog for some time now and love seeing all your photography! I know this may sound like an odd question, but... what settings do you usually shoot in? I actually have an XTi as well, but my pictures don't usually ever come out as nice yours do. =) I think one reason is probably that you have the 50mm (I only have the 85mm as of now).

    Thanks and Glod bless,
    A Sister in Christ =)

  7. Hi Liz! I am glad to hear you enjoy my photography! The settings I use really depend on the situation. I really like shooting in manual mode (that's the M on your little wheel that determines what mode you are in) which gives me complete control. I set my ISO as low as the lighting conditions will allow. On my kit lens I pretty much keep the aperture (f-stop) as low as it will go (wide open). As much as possible I keep the shutter speed above whatever focal length the lens is to avoid camera shake (so if I'm using my 50mm, I try to keep the shutter speed at 50 or higher - preferably higher!). I have recently been experimenting with Aperture Priority mode (Av), which lets you set the aperture and the ISO and it automatically sets the shutter speed. I have to raise the exposure compensation a little bit though.

You have to keep in mind that I do process my photos and give them a touch up to boost the sharpness and color if they need it. Or I'll lighten it if the photo came out too dark due to lighting conditions.

And yes, the 50mm helps a TON in producing beautiful images. I still love a lot of the photos I took with my kit lens but I do keep the 50mm 1.8 on the camera 99% of the time. The wider aperture makes all the difference in the world. Thankfully it's a very inexpensive lens at just under $100 and I think it's well worth it if you're looking to take your photography to the next level!

Thanks for the comment and I hope that answered your question... :-) I'll try to remember to post some of the settings I used on different photos.
