Powers Kids | Portraits

When Abbe emailed and asked if I'd be up for tackling portraits of her group of 10 siblings, I was both excited and just a *tad* nervous. After all, I stick to individual portraits for the most part, and I have never handled a group of more than approximately 4 people! But, being the dare-devil that I am (HA!), I said yes.

I couldn't have picked a better group to start with. We shot at their gorgeous farm before sunset and despite 90ºF temperatures, had a great time (I did anyway) and came away with some fun shots. Seriously, with such a good-looking family it's basically impossible to get bad pictures of them!

This was the best they could do at funny faces... :-)

The contrast of short and tall just really cracks me up

  1. Great job, Kathryn! #1, 10, &11 are favorites.

I am curious though, how did you manage taking that last one? I have an interesting picture in my mind of how that worked . . . :)

    1. Haha, that is called laying on the ground, wide angle lens and making everybody squish together like sardines! :-)

  8. Oh, I was going to ask you Kathryn... did you ever get "Error 99" messages on your Rebel Xti? That's the camera I own, and starting a few days ago haven't been able to take pictures with it and get Error 99 messages... ? Soooo, trying to figre that out, and thought it wouldn't hurt just to ask if you have had the same problem/what you did about it. =) Thanks so much!
P.S. How are you enjoying the 60d??? =D

    1. I don't remember ever getting that... the only error message that I remember getting was when I had to clear my card. I had emptied it (I thought) but then it wouldn't let me take pictures, until my mom figured out we had to completely clear the card - make sure you've saved your pictures, and then you can format the card in your camera's menu. That takes EVERYTHING off (apparently there is still data stored on the card even after you pull pictures off...). I'm not sure if that's the problem you're having, but you could try it. Otherwise, I don't know! Sorry I couldn't be more help!

      I loooooove my 60D so far!!!! :-D

    2. No worries... thanks for the info anyway. =) And thank you for telling mt about formatting memory cards... I've always been a little unsure about formatting my cards for fear of messing something up so I never have done that. I will definately be doing that now! Thanks again. =) May God bless your week with many little reminders of His great love!

    3. It does sound scary but as long as you make sure you've taken all your pictures off the card you're pretty safe. :-) Hope you get your problem solved!

  12. Kathryn you are officially an awesome family photographer. I was going to say I liked the first outfit color combinations better black white gray and splash of pink but then all the colors grew on me and I can't decide. One is more fun and playful the other classic and a tad formal. I Love all the poses and the not so posed ones too, like the boys carrying the bench together. Seriously super job K!
